hyrox physical therapy IN CHARLOTTE, NC
Eight stations. One kilometer between each one. A race that exposes every weak link before the finish line does.
HYROX Athletes are Different.
HYROX is not a casual fitness hobby. It is eight stations, one kilometer of running between each one, and a race format that will expose every weak link in your body before the finish line does. When something breaks down, whether that is your knee on the sled push, your shoulder on the ski erg, or your Achilles three stations in, you need a provider who understands what you are training for and actually knows how to get you back to it.
At Monarch Performance Physical Therapy, we treat HYROX athletes the way they deserve to be treated: with a full hour of one on one care, a real assessment of how you move and train, and a plan built around your race calendar, not a generic protocol.
the most common injuries we see in hyrox athletes
-
Wall balls and sandbag lunges under fatigue drive quad overload and patellar tendinopathy. Valgus collapse on tired legs turns a manageable load into a repetitive stress problem fast.
-
The ski erg is a repeated overhead pulling pattern under load. Combined with high training volume, it creates impingement, rotator cuff irritation, and anterior shoulder stress that does not resolve on its own.
-
Sled push and pull mechanics put significant demand on hip flexors, glutes, and the lumbar spine. Poor hip mobility or weak posterior chain strength makes the low back compensate, and it will let you know.
-
Running between every station means your lower leg never fully recovers mid-race. Athletes who carry existing tightness or training load errors often hit a wall with Achilles pain or plantar fascia irritation deep in a prep block.
-
High weekly mileage during HYROX prep is one of the most common triggers for IT band syndrome, especially when running volume increases faster than the body can adapt.
the monarch method
Every HYROX athlete that comes through our door goes through the same four-phase framework.
Full movement screen, loading pattern analysis, and a deep dive into your training history including race prep blocks, weekly volume, and the specific movements driving your symptoms.
Assess
Get pain out, restore tissue capacity, and rebuild the movement quality that broke down.
Restore
Progressive loading with HYROX-specific patterns. Sled mechanics, overhead pulling, single-leg strength, running load management. The work in this phase looks like training, not just rehab.
Rebuild
Return to full training with a clear plan. Race prep, prehab strategy, and the confidence that your body can handle what you are about to ask of it..
Perform
you don’t have to be in pain
A full movement screen before injury happens is the single most effective thing a HYROX athlete can do to protect a race calendar. It identifies the weak links — the hip mobility restriction that is costing you power on the sled, the single leg stability deficit that is loading your IT band on every run, the shoulder pattern that is going to become a problem by station four if you do not address it now.
At Monarch, performance evaluations for HYROX athletes include a full movement and loading assessment, station-specific strength testing, and a targeted plan to close the gaps before race day forces you to. The goal is simple: get ahead before you fall behind
who’s in your corner
Dr. Kiley Robb PT, DPT, CSCS is a Doctor of Physical Therapy and Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist with a background in sports rehab, return-to-sport training, and working with endurance and functional fitness athletes. She also competes in HYROX.
That is not a footnote. It means your provider has stood on the start line, managed a prep block, and learned firsthand what this sport does to the body. When you talk about race day cramping, training load errors, or the specific way your shoulder feels after a heavy ski erg session, she knows exactly what you mean.
